IP control of att Uverse Box

Is it possible to control a Uverse Box with IP commands?  I don't care about making a smart phone app etc.  I'd just like to be able to control the device from a third party HA system.  Learning IR codes from Uverse boxes is troublesome at best.  If it's not possible, why not?  When will this be available?

Hello...McFly? ... Is the lack of response an acknowledgement of deficiency?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay. Remote Control commands have been exposed through the U-verse Enabled APIs for iOS today. We will continue to look at opportunities to support other mobile platforms in the future based on market demand.

They haven't been exposed enough, IMO. I don't see what the big deal is about allowing LOCAL IP control without having to jump through hoops for Authentication.  A simple username and password should suffice on a local network.  I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT A MOBILE APP!  Let me make that clear.  What I am talking about is IP control from HA systems like Crestron, Savant, Control4, RTI, URC etc. ATT is hurting itself without that capabillity.  The competition has it : DirecTV, Dishnetwork and Comcast will soon.

So the Uverse box is an iOS device or cross platform?  All apps can funciton on Uverse?  I thought it was only html5 and Android.

Hi. Currently the Set Top Box is cross platform however it is currently only iOS supported. It will support Android at a later date.

Re: IP control of att Uverse Box

HA = Home automation.

AMX, Crestron, Savant, Control4, RTI, URC, etc. are all major players in the home automation / custom integration industry, with the first two being the largest and most capable of them all.

As noted, the competition (my experience has only been with DirecTV) can be easily integrated with (at least AMX & Crestron) via simple HTTP GET commands. Opening up a telnet port with all of the control commands available over a settop box, which has been done in other Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV platforms, would be an easy answer to the request we have in the custom integration industry.

Hopefully AT&T takes notice of our request and can implement it quickly. Sniffing the wire is proving to be quite difficult.

Re: IP control of att Uverse Box

Hi jwjames83

Currently there are no plans to open up unauthenticated access to the HTTP GET commands that can control the Settop box. This is due to the advanced options that are also supported by the U-verse Enabled SDK, where you have the ablility to provide content, e.g. video and images, from the device that can be displayed on screen.

Because of these features, communication between the device and the STB is only allowed after the device has been authenticated with the Settop Box. Currently you can access these features through the U-verse Enabled SDK for iOS, and other platforms will be added in the future.
